Career Development Model OCCUPATIONS Registered Nurse “high-skilled, high-wage, high-demand” PATHWAYS Therapeutic Services Clusters Health Science Represents a Narrowing Process Elementary to Middle to High School and beyond This graphic model represents the Cluster concept whereby students begin to define and re-define career-related choices and selections from a broad CLUSTER to a PATHWAY, to a more SPECIFIC OCCUPATION and advocates appropriate levels of postsecondary education based on the student choices. This model uses the Health Science CLUSTER , narrowed to the PATHWAY, Therapeutic Services, then further narrowed to a specific OCCUPATION, Registered Nurse which requires an Associate Degree at a USG school or techncial college. Other occupations in that pathway might include medical assistant, EMT, pharmacy technician, respiratory therapist just to name a few. At this point you may want to show the National Career Cluster Framework located at http://www.careertech.org/career-clusters/resources/career-frames.html All the clusters are listed. We are encouraging systems to use the correct terminology with students and their families in the educational and career planning process. Since the ultimate goal for ALL students is to WORK in a career field that fits them and will earn a self-sufficient wage, we are encouraging systems to embrace this new concept---a vision into a child’s future beyond graduation----Dan Hull refers to it as “Education with a purpose”. The new graduation rule has CTAE listed as an area of focus with Modern Language/Latin, Fine Arts and Advanced Academics. CTAE instructor should make every effort to make sure counselors are well informed about your pathway and related employment options. Remember there is light at the end of the tunnel for those who have the information.
