What Parents Really want to know: Q: How do we know what is assigned for homework?

A: Check the house assignment calendar MIS Website Your child MUST be logged into their HPISD Chrome account to print out attachments.

Homework Listed in AGENDA, posted on House Calendar. Agendas are required Approximately 30 minutes of homework per night Email your child’s advisory teacher if your child is spending more than one hour doing homework each evening If a student has a question, please encourage him/her to contact the teacher or come early to school for help.

Homework Folder Homework Yellow folders are homework folders. Check the assignment calendar and Google Classroom as needed. Homework

What Parents Really want to know: Q: How do I find out about my child’s work habits and behavior during school?

A: Communication Folders and Agendas Blue communication folders- communication cards and important info Parents sign each weekend. Students return to teacher. Communication

This is what the Communication Card looks like:

What Parents Really want to know: Q: How do we look up academic progress related to our students?

A: Grades are posted in our online gradebook Skyward. Directions for accessing Skyward were mailed to your home in a hot pink envelope over the summer.

What Parents Really want to know: Q: How are TAG students pulled out of the classroom? A: TAG math meets daily. Explorations students are pulled from SS classes for two class periods a week.

What Parents Really want to know: Q: What is the best way to contact teachers? A: Email is the best way to contact your teachers.

What Parents Really want to know: Q: How much do 5th graders use email for online tools and homework?

What Parents Really want to know: A: Students really don’t use email other than to log in to school sites and apps. We use Google Classroom almost daily and students learn how to set this up at school.

What Parents Really want to know: Q: What do I do if my student is struggling academically?

A: Morning Office Hours A: All teachers have specific mornings set aside for office hours. This information is posted on our MIS homepage. Advisory is also a great time for your child to ask questions about homework or class content.

Parent Conferences Conference time: 10:00-10:30AM By appointment only. All teachers attend each conference. Contact advisory teacher if you wish to set up a conference.

Technology Computers are available in the library at 7:30 AM Chromebooks are available in each advisory classroom. We have a team iPad cart All personal chromebooks and iPads should be left at home.

Email Distribution List Get on the email list! Go to hpisd.org, click on "MyHPOnline" and follow the directions henceforth. You can add or delete your name to and from any e-group list you choose.

Absences Please notify the 5/6 office (not the teachers) if your child will be absent from school. If sick, your child must be fever- free without medication for 24 hours before returning to school.

Absences Work for your student may be requested only if he/she is absent for three or more days. Work is not sent home early for students who know in advance of absences. Students have as many days to make up missed work as they were absent. Upon return to school, students should bring a note to the office.

After-school arrangements If you have an urgent message for your child (carpool changes, doctor’s appointments etc), please notify Tina Nettleton in the office. She will be sure your child gets the message. Please do NOT rely on teachers to deliver the message.

Cell phones: Cell phones should be turned off before entering the building. Phones are stored in advisory classrooms The phone will remain OFF until they walk outside.

Building Access Students who arrive before 7:30AM must enter the building through the back door next to the cafeteria Granada door opens at 7:30AM

Thanks for being here! It’s going to be the best year yet!
