Delaware Established in 1664

Delaware was a success Delaware was successful because they had good ship building industry and workers. Fishing was also very profitable for them to do and there was many skilled craftsman. Delaware in the beginning was dependent on slaves.

Establishing the colony Peter Minuit was the man who established Delaware. Delaware was established because of its rich soil content and its agricultural prospects such as wheat.

Money and Colonists The colonists for money they grew agricultural goods such as planted goods (wheat) and raised goods such as (cows). The colonists that made up Delaware were Dutch but all of the original settlers were killed by local Indians. Swedish people also occupied Delaware with African slaves.

What type of government was formed? Delaware had a proprietary government, which means they had permission to govern themselves.

Map of Delaware Delaware was associated with the the the Middle (Chesapeake) Colonies.

Delaware Flag The diamond, with the date December 7, 1787, declares the day Delaware became the first state to ratify the United States Constitution. The colors of the flag reflect the colors of the uniform of General George Washington.

Geography and Climate of Delaware Delaware is 96 miles long and anywhere from 9 to 35 miles wide depending where you are. It has a moderate temperature all year round. The average monthly temperature is about 75 degrees.
