Sending a Message in a Bottle Reducing Plastic Waste, From Source to Sea

It’s plastic – So what? Here’s a few facts to start with…. Globally: 300 million tonnes of new plastic is made. 8 billion tonnes since 1950. 1 million plastic bottles bought every minute. 80 million tonnes ends up in our oceans. Only 9% gets recycled. By 2050, more plastic in the ocean than fish.

And the effects of this? Throwaway society is encouraged. Wildlife is visibly suffering. Habitats are seriously endangered. Massive financial cost to clear up. Plastic in the food chain. 35 known toxins – Many are inside us now. Human health at risk. Uncertain future. Unknown other consequences.

What can we do about it? Take it personally. This is EVERYONE’S problem. Become part of a Global Community. Believe in YOUR personal power to make positive change happen. Challenge yourself Take action, however small, because MILLIONS of others are doing the same. Use the power in your pocket. Refuse. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Repeat.
