Purpose of this Assembly For students to learn about and consider:- The work experience process in SHS; The benefits and relevance of work experience; Tips on finding the best placement.
Friday 22nd February 2019 Christmas holidays- January 2019 Work experience process in SHS Christmas holidays- January 2019 Research placement options and organise February 4th 2019 Assembly for all of S4 February 21st 2019 Selkirk High School Careers Event (potential placement providers present!) Friday 22nd February 2019 Self Placements arranged by pupils and paperwork completed and returned to school by 22nd February 2019 31st May 2019 (provisional- tbc) Work experience meeting with S4 at 11.00 am. 3rd – 7th June 2019 S4 go out on work placement and complete log book. 10th June Return to S5 and complete review of work experience

How do Employers benefit from work experience?
A pupil on work experience can help employers: Enhance a company's image. Develop a better understanding of education and improve the recruitment processes. Improve employees' motivation e.g. personal satisfaction arising from helping a local school and its students. Increase opportunities for staff development, as employees are given an opportunity to develop new skills, and improve interpersonal skills in areas such as communication, planning organisation and coaching. Contribute to developing skills in the next generation of the workforce.
Tips for getting the best placement Consider: Your future career interest; Your interests, skills and qualities; Use your contacts- family, friends, neighbours; Be organised, self motivated and act quickly; Don’t take the easy option it might not be the best for you.
