Field Experiences at Winthrop: Exploratory Stage 25 hours of supervised work Pre-Professional Stage Field experience Professional Stage Full-time Internship You are probably the most important entity in the intern’s career at this point—part counselor, teacher, colleague, sometimes mother/father; just as with your students you want to show respect for the intern, but you are in charge. You are the role model to help students put into practice the professional dispositions. Remember: The intern may appear very confident; however, the student is still an intern and needs your guidance and mentoring. Most of our students carry themselves well, are poised and confident, probably a product of young people of this day and time; and hopefully, from input of parents and Winthrop faculty, but are still novices. They are not professionals yet—need much guidance, some more than others.
