About the San Diego Museum of Art The San Diego Museum of Art, the region’s oldest musuem, provides an amazing and different cultural experience for almost 250,000 visitors annually. Located in the heart of beautiful Balboa Park, the Museum’s nationally renowned permanent collection includes Spanish and Italian old masters, South Asian paintings, and 19th- and 20th-century American paintings and sculptures. In addition, the Museum regularly features major exhibitions from around the world, as well as an extensive year-round schedule of supporting cultural and educational programs for children and adults. Exhibition text is always in English and Spanish. The Museum’s research library offers access to an extensive collection of art history publications. More than 75 full-time and part-time employees ensure the smooth operation of the Museum, guided by the leadership of a 37-member Board of Trustees. The Museum is supported by its Board, Members, donors, foundations, corporations, support organizations, countless volunteers, and our visitors. Additional financial support is provided by the County of San Diego Community Enhancement Program and the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture

Occupying the space once known as the Asian Court, these galleries have been modified by the national art association. Reclaimed teak floors, atmospheric exhibition design, and state of art lighting all come together to create a powerful environment for these exceptional arts

Featuring masterpieces by more than 40 monumental artists, Gauguin to Warhol includes works by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Georgia O’Keeffe, Salvador Dalí, and Frida Kahlo, among others. The scope of the show begins in the late 1800s, featuring milestones of Post-Impressionism by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Vincent Van Gogh, and Paul Gauguin, and extends to the mid twentieth century in America with Abstract Expressionists such as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Lee Krasner, Willem de Kooning, and Robert Motherwell as well as prominent Pop artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol. Through an impressive and encompassing array of works, the exhibition showcases the major aesthetic and philosophical themes of 20th century art.

Ramesses II, known as “Ramesses the Great,” ruled Egypt for 67 years (1279-1212 BCE) and was responsible for an extensive building program which remade the face of Egypt and included numerous temples at sites such as Luxor, Karnak, Abydos, Thebes, and others. He erected many hundreds of carved images of himself, the most famous being the colossal seated statues at the Great Temple of Abu Simbel in Nubia

Reflection This museum shows a lot of history from many parts of the world. I really like how it shows the variety of cultures that we have across our planet. It was very interesting observing how alike and similar everyone’s ideas are. I have definitely learned a lot about everyone’s culture.
