PHYSICAL AND AESTHETIC FEATURES BRATISLAVA REGION DEVIN CASTLE TIPE OF SITE It is a preserved ruin and historical castle with a museum PHYSICAL AND AESTHETIC FEATURES Devin Castle is situated in Devin which is a borough of Bratislava. The cliff (elevation 212 meters) is an ideal place for a fort due to its position at the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers. The fort watches over an important trade route along the Danube as well as one branch of the Amber Road. There are two parts of the castle you need to see. For the first one, which is the actual castle with the museum, you need to get a ticket. The second one is a public path along the river bank. AREA COVERED It covers 13,96 km² HISTORICAL/SCIENTIFIC/ARTISTIC INFORMATION. The first settlement of the Devin castle is believed to be in the 5th century B.C. It used to serve as a boundary fortress, military station and a trade center in the past. The most photographed items of the castle is the watchtower – Maiden Tower and well where you can drink water . In one-room building of the castle we can find a tomb, where you can see fundamentals of the chapel and an old white cross there. Near the castle we can see place with white statue of a woman, the view from this place is very amazing.Devin castle is one of the oldest castles in Slovakia. DATING The site has been settled since the Neolithic Age and fortified since the Bronze and Iron Age and later by Celts and Romans. In 1961 was a national cultural monument.

CONDITION OF PRESERVATION VISITING TIME BRATISLAVA REGION DEVIN CASTLE CONDITION OF PRESERVATION It is a well-preserved ruin. The upper part of the castle is accessible again, after almost nine year of reconstruction. VISITING TIME April and October TUE-SUN 10:00-17:00 (last visit at 16:30) May-September TUE-FRI 10:00-18:00 (last visit at 17:30), SAT-SUN 10:00-19:00 (last visit at 18:30) November – March MON-SUN 10:00-16:00 in case of good weather conditions. BRATISLAVA REGION DEVIN CASTLE ACCESSIBILITY Devin Castle is situated in Devin which is a borough of Bratislava, 12 km away from the city center. The bus journey takes around 20 minutes. An alternative is to take a taxi if you don’t have a car. You can also get there by a boat from one Bratislava port or from Hainburg, Austria. The castle itself is available for disabled people. FACILITIES There are some restaurants, souvenir shops, toilets and parking lot near the castle.
