Sir Francis Bacon English Philosopher and Leader of English Renaissance. (1561-1626) First candidate to replace Shakespeare. Central figure for Shakespeare, theory came about by American author Delia Bacon (no relation to Sir Francis). Delia believed that Bacon collaborated with other leading minds like Sir Walter Raleigh and Edmund Spenser. Delia stated that the reason Bacon and his learned cabal wanted to conceal their own identities was the so called, “stigma of print” the notion that being a playwright would be ignominious career ender for aristocratic politicians.

Christopher Marlowe Baptized Feb 26,1564 Died May 30,1593 in Deptford, England He was an Elizabethan poet and Shakespeare's most important predecessor in English drama, He was known for his establishment of dramatic blank verse. Marlowe was the second child, eldest son of John Marlowe. He got his bachelors of art degree at Corpus Christi college, Cambridge. After college Marlowe was in London writing for theatres, he occasionally ran into trouble with authorities because of his atheist beliefs.

Theories 01 02 03 Some conspiracy theorists will say he faked death. There was no record anywhere to indicate that William Shakespeare of Stratford ever read a book or wrote a letter. 01 Some conspiracy theorists will say he faked death. 02 How do people know who Shakespeare is? How do they know he was actually a real guy? How do you know he wrote the plays? 03

Origins of plays/ Controversy Most are set against medieval English history. Plays like "Macbeth" and "Hamlet" are historical in setting but are more correctly classified as Shakespeare tragedies. They're not historically accurate. His plays offer a view of society that cuts right across the class system. These plays present us with all kinds of characters, from peasants to members of the monarchy.
