Investigating Parachutes Resisting the force of gravity You will need: Scissors Cotton Thread Plastic Sheets Paperclips Stopwatch Measuring Tape Sticky Tape 1.3 11 11 11 11

Investigating Parachutes Making your first parachute Cut a 20cm square out of the plastic sheet. Use the tape to attach four threads, each 30cm long, to the corners of the square. Bundle the loose ends of the threads together and tie them together around a paperclip. 12 12

Investigating Parachutes Working with a partner, find out how long it takes for your parachute to fall 2 metres. Repeat this five times, recording each result, then calculate the average. Make a different parachute, repeat the experiment and compare your results with those of the first parachute. Things you could change include: size of the parachute, shape of the parachute, holes in the parachute, different material, number of paperclips used Show your results in a graph. 2 metre floor 13

Investigating Parachutes (Continuation) You are going to make a third and final parachute. This time you are going to make a prediction before testing your parachute. Note down what you are going to alter, and what you expect to happen. Carry out your experiment, then record and display your results. Was your prediction correct?
