Choosing your classes…. Today you will learn about all of the 8th grade electives that are being offered. Some elective classes require applications. You can request an application at the end of presentation. All electives will be year long electives except one which will be a semester elective. You will just be choosing your electives. You will automatically be placed in your core classes, based off your current core classes. You can view today’s PowerPoint and video on Google Classroom – HJHS Counseling or the HJHS Counseling website. Your registration needs to be completed even if you think you are not attending HJHS next year!

You must meet 3 out of the 4 qualifying criteria: Honors Classes You must meet 3 out of the 4 qualifying criteria: Previous year AzMERIT score – Highly Proficient in ELA and Math Math: 3635 – 3688 ELA: 2578 – 2629 Earned A’s or B’s for 8 consecutive quarter Teacher Recommendation EOY – Highly Proficient

Electives You will choose 2 REQUESTED electives You must enter 3 ALTERNATE Elective courses. Students are not guaranteed elective choices. However, we will make every effort to give students their REQUESTED choices. Elective classes are year long. Except for one. Pay attention to PREREQUISITES. Ex. Spanish 1, Industrial Tech. 1 There will be NO elective changes in the fall!!

Course Request Summary You must print and have a parent sign the Course Request Summary. Request Summary due to your English teacher by Tuesday, February 13rd. There will be NO elective changes so choose wisely. Discuss with your parents, ask questions, visit a teacher if you need more information, or ask me. Courses that require an application are not on Infinite Campus. You must be accepted. Once you are accepted, you will be put in the class. You choose them on your card.

If you want an elective that requires an application, you will NOT be able to input that class into I.C. You must complete the application and turn it in. If you are chosen for that class you will automatically be placed in it.
