VA Benefits for Which I May Be Eligible * Letter of Eligibility The Veterans Affairs Department will provide you with this letter once you have completed the application on the GI Bill website. This letter must be submitted to the VA Certifying Official at SCTC to begin receiving education benefits. This letter will confirm what chapter of VA Education Benefits VA has determined you are eligible to receive.

How Much Does VA Benefits Pay? The amount of funding available depends on what the Veterans Affairs Department determines you are eligible to receive based on location, type, and time of service in the military.

How Does VA Education Benefits Get Paid? 1. Chapter 30 (MGIB) – VA Stipend paid directly to student 2. Chapter 31 – Vocational Rehabilitation – All fees, tuition, and books paid to SCTC. Veteran receives monthly stipend based on # of credit hours he/she is taking 3. Chapter 33 – Post 9/11 – Fees and tuition paid to the school based on Veteran’s % of eligibility. Book stipend and BAH are paid directly to the student. If not 100% eligible for Chapter 33 – Post 9/11, student will be responsible for fees and tuition not paid by VA 4. Chapter 35 – VA Dependents – VA Stipend paid directly to student

How Do I Certify I Am Attending College? Once your registration status has been confirmed, SCTC will notify the Veteran’s Affairs Department of your enrollment status. Should a student’s enrollment status change, SCTC will notify the Veteran’s Affairs Department of the change, and the student may be liable for any funds already disbursed to the student in excess of current enrollment.

How Do I Verify My Enrollment? If you are receiving the MGIB Chapter 30, Reserve GIBill, or REAP: Call the VA toll free Interactive Voice Response (IVR) line at 1-877-VA-ECERT (877-442-2378) to verify your attendance. This should be done on the last day of each month. If you are receiving dependents (Chapter 35) benefits, call 1-888-442-4551 on the last day of each month to verify your attendance. Both college certification and student verification must be complete before benefits will be paid. Post 9/11 (Chapter 33) does not require verification.
