Large area technology large area sensing and imaging will provide new measurement tools for sustainable industrial development and growth a technology base for future global awareness services directed towards environmental and consumer related issues

Technology of the future The constant pressure for more efficient industrial processes in order to stay competitive on a global market drives the development of sensor technology. Yesterday, the driving force was primarily internally motivated by the need to reduce costs and increase quality. Today, external considerations are growing in importance and the competition between brand names demands an active role in driving global policies for security, environment and political stability. A large part of the sensor technology used in consumer products today was developed to satisfy yesterdays industrial needs i.e. digital cameras, MEMS solutions for accelerometers and gyroscopes, sensors for positioning and interactivity etc. Today’s industrial need is wider and tomorrow’s industrial sensor technology will be even more suited for global services on a consumer market.
