OB Provider Training FetaLink
FetaLink FetaLink is a software application intended for use in both hospital and clinic settings by obstetrical healthcare professionals providing care to pregnant women in the antepartum and intrapartum phases of pregnancy. FetaLink can be used at the bedside, the central nursing station, or at remote locations. It helps the clinician monitor the labor of patients by displaying data sent from fetal monitoring devices, providing a graphical display of the relationship between uterine contractions and fetal heart rate, and alerting the clinician to out-of-reference-range data trends.
Accessing FetaLink On the computer desktop, double-click FetaLink. A splash screen displays to indicate the request to open the application is processing
FetaLink Opens FetaLink opens to view only mode. You may select a room to view but in order to view an archived strip you must Sign In
Signing into FetaLink With FetaLink open, click Sign In on the toolbar when in the Census perspective. Enter your user name in the User Name box (It is the same as your Cerner User name and password) Press TAB to move to the next field and type your password in to the Password box. Click OK or press ENTER.
Signing into FetaLink You are now signed into FetaLink. The Sign In button is now displayed as Sign Out. This button configuration is a visual reference to indicate your current signed in status. All remaining activities require you to be logged into FetaLink.
Single Patient Perspective The Single Patient Perspective allows you to view the monitored location for a single patient. After the patient is associated to the monitor, select the check box on the census grid for the patient you want to view Click View
Single Patient View The monitored location for the selected patient opens You also can click in the location field to open the monitored location.
Multiple Patient Perspective The Multiple Patient perspective displays multiple monitored locations and was intended to be used to view more than one waveform at a time. Complete the following steps to view multiple monitored locations: From the Census perspective, place a check-mark in the boxes on the census grid of the patients you want to view.

Annotations Summary The Annotations Summary allows you to view a list of all annotations that are saved to a patient's current episode. To access the Annotations Summary, click Annotations Summary on the toolbar.
Filter Annotations The filter options allow you to look at specific types of annotations. To view annotations made by the nurse, deselect all filters except Annotations.
Annotations in Context with Waveform To view the annotations in context with the waveform select an annotation. The waveform will display with the selected annotation in the center of the extended view.
Documentation Integration The following documentation from Powerchart Maternity can also be integrated and viewed in FetaLink: Medications administration: The name of the medication, dose, route, and time within the MAR. IV administration: The initiation of the bag and titration of the IV; the name of diluent, medication, and rate within Interactive View. Cervical Exams: Cervical exam dilation, effacement, and fetal station within Interactive View They can be viewed on the Fetal Monitor Strip and in the Annotations.
Documentation Integration FetaLink sweep for Cerner Millennium clinical events at defined intervals to display them on the strip. The Get New Results button allows for additional ad hoc sweep at the clinician's discretion. When the system is querying for clinical events, an indicator bar is displayed in the lower right corner A user can view details of the annotation by positioning the pointer over or double-clicking the annotation Modifications are performed in Powerchart Maternity .
Alerts Alert parameters define the normal range of patient data, outside of which an alert will be triggered. The alert results in the patient chart border changing to red and the alerting vital sign container background changing to yellow. Viewing Alert Signal Quality In the Single Patient view, the border changes to gray and a Low Signal Quality icon ( ) is displayed on the left of the border.
Viewing Archived Strips Complete the following steps to view archived fetal waveforms: From the Single Patient Perspective (Monitored Location view), click Patient Archive on the toolbar or select View > Patient Archive. The Patient Archive defaults to display archived data for the beginning of the last finalized episode. A message is displayed indicating retrieval is in process.

Click any of the minute buttons to change the time range of the Patient Archive Note If you enter a date that does not exist for the patient's finalized episode, the Patient Archive displays the most recent patient archive data.
Viewing Archived Strips If the patient is not available in the Census Perspective, complete the following steps to search for the patient and view the archived fetal waveforms: Click Archive Search on the toolbar. A new toolbar is displayed. Click Patient Search. The Patient Search dialog box is displayed. Enter the appropriate search criteria and select the patient from the returned results.
Viewing Archived Strips A message is displayed indicating retrieval is in process, and then the archived waveform is displayed in the Patient Archive Tab. Click the minute buttons to change the time range of the Patient Archive. Select an episode from the Episode list or enter a date and time from the Go To field to view device data for a specific date and and time for the patient’s finalized episode.

Central Monitor Perspective The Central Monitor perspective allows you to view active monitored locations based on the last tab selected in the Census perspective. Up to 25 active locations (any location that is currently receiving data from a fetal monitoring device that is turned on) can be displayed in one view. To access the Central Monitor Perspective, click Central Monitor on the toolbar.
