Describe how you would address Equality & Diversity in the implementation of staff Training. Joe White 7th July 2014

Equality & Diversity Equality is ensuring individuals or groups of individuals are treated fairly and equally and no less favourably, specific to their needs, including areas of race, gender, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation and age. Diversity aims to recognise, respect and value people’s differences to contribute and realise their full potential by promoting an inclusive culture for all staff and students. It is the legal obligation to protect against discrimination. Not All Differences are visible.

Overview of Methods We can promote equality and diversity by: treating all staff fairly creating an inclusive culture for all ensuring equal access to opportunities to enable students to fully participate in the learning process enabling all to develop to their full potential equipping staff and students with the skills to challenge inequality and discrimination in their work/study environment making certain that any learning materials do not discriminate against any individuals or groups ensuring sure policies, procedures and processes don't discriminate

Making Assumptions About trainees learning style About trainees competence About trainees experiences About trainees job role About trainees confidence About trainees willingness/ability to contribute

How can Effective PBS training harness A diverse staff group? Valuing the differences between people and the ways in which those differences can contribute to a richer, more creative and more productive working environment. Valuing each members contribution. Providing support for those with additional needs. Protect contributors from harassment and bullying.

Avoiding Discrimination Applying an apparently general rule which in practice disadvantages one sex, race etc. i.e You wont be able to use this intervention because……, Student only responds to men. treating somebody less favourably on the grounds of their sex, race etc eg. Bullying, harassment or exclusion

To Conclude Equality & Diversity awareness is mandatory in order to build and promote good relations between people of all backgrounds Ensure training is: Non- intimidating Non-hostile Non-degrading Non-humiliating
