Do Now:

Today’s Objective: I will be able to create ratio tables to solve real world problems by using my knowledge that a ratio table is a table of equivalent ratios. I will demonstrate my understanding by completing at least 2 out of 3 tables from the exploratory challenge correctly with my group. 6.RP.A.3a

Language Objective By the end of the lesson I will be able to use all four language domains of listening, speaking, reading to use the academic language of ratios to communicate and create ratio tables to solve real world problems by using my knowledge that a ratio table is a table of equivalent ratios. I will demonstrate my understanding by communicating the academic math language of ratios while completing at least 2 out of 3 tables from the exploratory challenge correctly with my group. 6.RP.A.3a

Page 38 Exercise 1 What’s wrong? 3 X 8 24 5 X 8 40 7 X 8 56 9 X 8 72 1 : 8

Pg. 41 I do… 1a. Create a ratio table for making lemonade with a lemon juice-to-water ratio of 1:3. Show how much lemon juice would be needed if you use 36 cups of water to make lemonade. Cups of Lemon Juice Cups of Water 1 3 2 6 9 4 12 36 You would need 12 cups of lemon juice 1b. How is the value of the ratio used to create the table?

How do you feel? topic.

Pg. 41 We do… 2. Ryan made a table to show how much blue and red paint he mixed to get the shade of purple he will use to paint the room. He wants to use the table to make larger and smaller batches of purple paint. Blue Red 12 3 20 5 28 7 36 9 2a. What ratio was used to create the table? Support your answer. The ratio of the amount of blue paint to the amount of red paint is 4:1. I know this because 12:3, 20:5, 28:7 and 36:9 are all equivalent to 4:1. 2b. How are the values in each row related to each other? The amount of blue paint is 4 times the amount of red paint, and the amount of red paint is ¼ the amount of blue paint. 2c. How are the values in each column related to each other? 8 was added to the entries in the blue column and 2 was added to the entries in the red column. 8 to 2 is equivalent to the ratio 4 to 1.

Pgs. 37-39 You do… Imagine that you are making a fruit salad. For every quart of blueberries you add, you would like to put in 3 quarts of strawberries. Create 3 tables that show the amounts of blueberries and strawberries you would use if you needed to make fruit salad for greater numbers of people. With your partners, complete the exploratory challenge on pages 37-39
