WEEK 10 ¤ WHEN YOU PRAY MATT 6:5-15
Matthew 6:1 (NASB) “Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.” “spiritual maturity isn’t measured by how high you jump in praise but how straight you walk in obedience.” – unknown
when you pray… public prayer what Jesus condemned was playing the role of “a person of prayer” without really seeking God Jesus confronted the Pharisees’ love of basking in the admiration of people
when you pray… private prayer the place itself isn’t of importance get away / no distractions no fear of criticism be still enough to LISTEN no show
when you pray… prayer is too serious to be done in pretense! the reward spoken of here is not a reimbursement for something; it is a natural consequence, a by-product of prayer
when you pray… less is more He did not mean ‘don’t continue to ask’ Matt 26:44 So He left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.
