Report on UNICEF SBCC interventions for the period of February - 19 June 2016 Prepared by: Shirin Hussain C4D specialist, UNICEF BCC working group meeting 20 June 2016

UNICEF engagement in SBCC interventions UNICEF support to MOH&FW Policy, strategy development ZIKV strategy developed and presented to MOH&FW. UNICEF representative worked as a member of technical committee on strategy development . SBCC strategy on NHNP developed and approved. UNICEF was closely engaged in developing the strategy. Research and development Supporting BSMMU in an Assessment Study on adolescent health Materials Development SWITCH materials developed and utilized by EPI HQ. Package on pneumonia prevention for service providers and community developed and got IEC committee approval in June 2016. Materials developed on New Born Health Care with PM IMCI. Waiting to get approval from NBC technical team. Message development Messages on adolescent health developed in 9 major areas through a consultative process. Supporting PM, M&RH in hiring a creative agency for material development.

UNICEF engagement in SBCC interventions Mass media: working with Ministry of Information Supporting BTV in producing a drama serial on New Born Health Care Supporting Betar to produce a drama serial on routine EPI A 50 episode radio drama serial on adolescent issues including health and nutrition are on air Community engagement interventions Community engagement interventions in 21 upazilas of 07 districts to promote practices of at least 4 ANC visits, consumption of IFA, Early and EBF, complementary feeding of children, hand washing and ending child marriage going on.

IFA Consumption (Self Reported) Key achievements January – June 2016 Results (Midline Study, KMOS): Hand Washing with soap of mother of under 5 years children increased 33% from Baseline. Knowledge on benefits of ending child marriage increased: Mothers: 13% to 31% Adult male: 8% to 32% Adolescents: 9% to 42% Received Four or More ANCs IFA Consumption (Self Reported)
