Key Terms: 0-Unit vs. Unit classes PASS vs. No PASS Open-Entry / Open-Exit Prereq - prerequisite required Coreq - corequisite required Rec Prep - recommended preparation = Required Prerequisite

O-UNITS OR UNIT Classes? Which Is Right For ME? 0-Unit or Units: Cost - There is no charge for 0-Unit courses - Unit classes cost between $46 and $179 a unit Prerequisites - There is no grade for 0-Unit courses so these courses CANNOT fulfill a prerequisite Limited seats available - The ESL department sets a limit for 0-Unit courses and when filled that part of the class closes. O-UNITS OR UNIT Classes? Which Is Right For ME?

ESL Course Grid: ESL Courses Handbook (page 7) Courses in RED are core classes for each level Prerequisites are enforced Courses may have required corequisites

Placement Exam Results: ESL Course Placement Select your classes based on your placement results. If you would like to take a class LOWER than your placement results, you may need to talk to your ESL professor or the department chair.

Placement Exam Results: Beginning Level - ESL 320, 321, 322, 323 & 325 Intermediate Level - ESL 330, 331, 332, 333, 335 & 336 Advanced Level 1 - ESL 340, 342, 343, 344, 345, 346 & 347 Pre-College & Advanced Level 2 - ESL 350, 354, 355, 356 357, 358 & 359

ESL Appeal Process: What if I disagree with my placement? Take the ESL test again after 6 months have passed Take the ESL Writing Sample

Student Educational Plan: Educational Goals Test Results/Regular English test referral Select classes based on your testing results Use referral of services Have the Counselor sign your Ed Plan before you leave!

Regular English Exam Referral If your test results indicate ESL 350 placement the advisement counselor can recommend that you take the regular English placement exam.
