How the heck can I get out of my 5-7 slump?

Focus Purpose & Importance Learning Objectives To help students get better grades and scores. AP skills Depth of analysis Writing to the rubric State Standards There are – but I didn’t have time to cross reference them

So what am I going to get out of this? (learning outcomes) Specific knowledge? General literary knowledge? What will be the measurable outcomes?

Overview & Connections Individual Predictions: Strengths? Weaknesses? Misconceptions? What background knowledge is necessary? Grading organization/culture, rubric, human nature

Scoring Rubric (connection to prior content knowledge) Focus Support Organization Conventions Diction 9 to 8 Heavy analysis: complex thorough, unique, no misreading, insightful with analysis of each piece of support well and maturely organized mastery of mechanics, stylistically resourceful appropriate and intricate: that of a published author 7 to 6 Highly analytical although not as direct, may be paraphrased instead of exact competent, no misreading but not super thorough, at the lower end there may be minor misreading but not significant or sustained organized, no lapses of progression sound but may have a few errors or not be very creative SAT type of vocabulary 5 (passing) Overtly simplistic analysis "pedestrian" no specific textural examples, all paraphrased, implicit rather than explicit simplistic/formulaic overtly simplistic or overreaching with errors simplistic, average high school vocabulary 4 to 3 Sustained misreading with little or no analysis, irrelevant poor or missing support, could just be a plot summary weak in organization, lapses in progression Errors and poor syntax Poor, simple, meager 2 to 1 Serious weaknesses in comprehension of the prompt, insufficient response non-existent or irrelevant not evident or insufficient errors become a severe distraction to communication unacceptable or insufficient
