Definitions Cultural diffusion – The spread of ideas from one place to another (Buddhism from India to China) Social mobility – ability to move up or down the “social ladder” Filial Piety – respect for your parents (Confucianism) Eightfold path – 8 steps to achieve Nirvana (ultimate meaning of life) Polis – community City-state – city that is separated from a nation (different government)

Definitions Socrates – Athenian philosopher, and Plato’s teacher (studied human nature) Plato – Philosopher and mathematician Aristotle – Greek philosopher and founder of the study of logic Alexander the Great – Emperor of Macedonia (Greece) and conqueror of a lot of land Pax Romana – Period of peace in Roman Empire Twelve Tables – Code of laws to protect people in Rome Democracy – Government controlled by the citizens (Athens) Consuls – Officials who were at the top of the Roman government (2)
