Posts and Programmes: Foundation Core Medical Training General Internal Medicine Acute Internal Medicine Anaesthetics Cardiology Gastroenterology (3 sites) Emergency Medicine (2 sites) These posts and programmes were selected as they had more than 10 outliers in the GMC national trainee survey 2015

East Midlands – The People The Dean Project lead and administration support Senior Management Team and Executive Board members Directors and Heads of Schools 2 x Medical Schools 5 x Trusts + 1 independent Lay Partners General Medical Council All of the process was conducted in house – no additional support

East Midlands: The process Identified key milestones Communications plan Gathered all info on specialities Collected the evidence Up loaded the evidence Planned and held meetings Update reports Kept track of all activity Reviewed on a regular basis Risk manage the whole process Put the milestones in your calendar as red, gather every bit of intelligence on the specialities, collect your most exciting pieces of evidence (stay clear of policies and procedures)

Key messages Work with the GMC on your visit agenda Management Paper to Ex – get sign off Track all activities Engagement Meet and discuss regularly Plan together and be clear about expectations Timing and interdependencies Know your milestones Plan, plan, plan Work with the GMC on your visit agenda Engagement with the GMC and others about the agenda for when they visit you. Work with them about who they wanted to see. Trainees, trainers, lay partners, management team, quality team and functional teams.

During the GMC review process Quality managers attended the GMC feedback sessions After each visit to the Trusts the GMC copied the local office into their initial findings report For the medical schools a different process Project manager forwarded all reports on to key individuals

East Midlands GMC visit 1st and 2nd Dec 2016 Project manage the 2 days Book your venue Have a host team Book refreshments Have your evidence available Have an IT person available Ensure your visitors and team are comfortable By now your key people being interveiwed by the GMC will be well prepared.
