The House of Representatives passed the legislation with some amendments last week. The Senate will now consider the bills. Government expects legislation to be passed by the end of Carbon pricing mechanism to commence on 1 July 2012.

The carbon price will start at: $23.00 in $24.15 in $25.40 in Fixed Price Permits: liable entities purchase permits up to emissions levels purchased permits cannot be traded or banked Freely allocated permits can be traded or sold back to the Government but cannot be banked Linked to the Carbon Farming Initiative
