Cue Cards

The best cue cards: Write vertically (from top going down) on 4x7 note cards To keep track with thumb going down like on a list have ONE main heading or idea per card are written clearly using larger than usual font (so you can read them easily) have plenty of white space around each word or phrase to help them stand out so you don’t get lost

I. Intro Hook Nec. Info/Tie in Thesis Hook Nec. Info/Tie in Thesis Cocking of gun; Boom! There goes Bambi’s mom! Nec. Info/Tie in Most of us remember the scarring scene of Bambi’s mother being shot, but what you may not have understood at that young age, is why Bambi’s mother died. If you were told that she needed to be put out of her misery because she was suffering greatly, or she was about to hurt a young human child, maybe then you wouldn’t feel so bad for her. Thesis Today, I’m going to persuade you to believe that hunting is not immoral, it is needed because of “1”, to “2”, and “3”. Hook Cocking of gun; Boom! There goes Bambi’s mom! Nec. Info/Tie in remember scene mother shot, not understood why died. If told put out of misery from suffering, or about to hurt child, maybe wouldn’t feel bad. Thesis Today, I’m going to persuade you to believe that hunting is not immoral, it is needed because of “1”, to “2”, and “3”.

The best cue cards: use bullet points or numbers to itemize the supporting ideas under the main heading (alphanumeric outlining—I. A. B. 1. 2. a. b. i. ii./ II. A….) are written on ONE side of the card only are clearly numbered so that you know the order they come in or they may even be tied together. Pierce a hole through the left corner and tie with a loop of string so that the cards can be flipped.

The best cue cards: are color-coded clearly showing your main idea transitions, examples, sources, and/or gestures. have where intentional gestures/movement are to be given. For example: Main Idea One - Supporting Idea with source from CNN.com…- Rephrase with example…. – (walk to left, extend left hand) have approximate timings marked so you can track yourself through your allotted time. If you find you're going over you can adjust by leaving out an extra example or conversely if you're under time, you can add one in (plan for both just in case!)
