Which Brand of Bottled Water is the Healthiest? By: Mingchen Gong and Kelvin Kang

Research Too much acidity is bad for you, however, too much artificial alkalinity is also bad for you Acidity may contribute to weight gain Too much artificial alkalinity may result in nausea, vomiting, etc. The normal pH level for tap water is 7, which is dark green in the pH scale pH levels of water under 8.5 and above 6 are safe to drink Natural alkaline water occurs when water goes over rocks, picking up minerals that increase the alkalinity Artificial alkaline water is created with electrolysis to raise pH levels, and may generate health problems

Hypothesis   If the healthiness of water is observed through its pH level, then we think Dasani will be least healthy because it comes from public water sources and public water sources usually have lower pH levels compared to private sources, and Pure-Life will be healthiest because it is the most popular brand of water.

Materials and Variables 1 bottle of Pure-life water 1 bottle of Dasani water 1 bottle of Aquafina water 1 eye dropper pH test drops 3 cups Independent variable: Type of water Dependent variable: pH level of the type of water Controlled variable(s): Amount of pH drops in each bottle Type of cup

Procedure Put on the table 1 bottle of Pure-Life, 1 bottle of Dasani, and 1 bottle of Aquafina Pour 100ml of each into the cups Label the cups Put the pH drops in the eye dropper Put 10 drops in each cup Record the color Check the pH scale for the color Record the pH level Compare

Observations Dasani Aquafina Pure Life pH level: 6 pH level: 6.5

Conclusion   Our hypothesis was right. Dasani had the lowest pH level, with Aquafina just above it. Pure-Life was the healthiest. It had a pH level of 8. It isn't the most popular brand of bottled water for no reason. Just don't drink Dasani.
