Welcome to AP Human Geography!!!

Aimee Bonin This is my 7th year teaching at Westlake. Received my BA in History at UT Austin and Masters in from Lamar University. Completed teacher certification program Texas State.

Website: Calendar and Documents Everything your student needs for APHG is located on the class website. The password is “gochaps”.

Learning targets:

Responsibilities of AP Students (from the AP College Board) 1. A willingness to actively engage with sophisticated concepts. 2. A willingness to be judged by rigorous, college-level standards. 3. A willingness to complete longer and more complex nightly assignments. 4. A willingness to complete the AP examination in May.

What can I expect this year for my student in AP Human Geography?

It is possible that: It will take time for your student to adjust to the routine of both high school and AP. Your student’s grades in AP may be lower than in the past.

Your student may have to do more homework and be more organized than was necessary in the past. Test scores could be lower than you would like to see, especially early on.

Expectations of AP students: Keep up with their learning targets and assignments. Seek clarification when needed. Review notes nightly. Check the calendar and plan ahead. Pro-active tutoring when needed. Advocate for themselves.

Supplemental Preparation Materials (these are not a requirement but what some students have used in the past) Make THEIR OWN flashcards/quizlet. Test Prep Books Apps (iScore 5)

REMEMBER: This is a college level course and your student is a freshman in high school. Every student has an adjustment period. The key is making the necessary changes in study/preparation habits.

Grades: 70 % Major Grades 20% Daily Grades 10 % HW and Vocab Checks *any grade in the 10% category can be replaced with your test grade.

HW Assignments and Vocab Checks Grades in this category will be replaced by the Unit Exam grade if the exam grade is higher than the homework grade or vocab check.

Make up work: The student is in charge of obtaining make up work. The student needs to complete the make up work in a timely manner.

1’s in Gradebook If you see a ‘1’ in the gradebook it means you have a missing assignment and you need to turn it in or make it up for full credit.

Tutoring Schedules: All APHG teachers use the same materials for instruction. No matter which APHG teacher you have, any APHG teacher can help you with tutoring. Coach Grigg Room 202: M-F 8:00-8:3 Mrs. Bonin Room 203: Mon. 4:05-4:35 Mrs. Bischoff Room 204: Tues. 4:05-4:35

AP EXAM The exam will be given on Friday May 13th at 8:00 AM. 2 hours 15 minutes 50% Multiple Choice (75 Questions 60 minutes) 50% Free Response (3 FRQ in 75 Minutes)
