Living in the Inaka Here are some tips and tricks for enjoying and making the most out of your JET experience

Isolation Feeling lonely ? Make friends! It might seem lonely at first so don’t hesitate to reach out to fellow JETs Join different teams or leagues (the YA league) Try to go out to KumaJet events Talk with you Eikaiwa students Check out your local TV, Board of Education events board, or regional newspaper

Social Plan get togethers with your friends Girls night, Guys night, Movies etc. Road trips, or travel buddies

School/ Environment Looking for something to do on your free time? You can learn Japanese. Self study (Genki, Mina no Nihongo, Youtube) Classes (JET online courses, in person with a teacher) Talk with co-workers, students, peers Start an English Club or a weekly English event

School/ Environment Join after school clubs English Board Schools have many clubs it’s a great way to build rapport with your students (they can practice English and you can practice Japanese) English Board Fun facts about your country Monthly events Light-hearted, easy and fun

Self Don’t know what to do? Want to immerse yourself in the culture? Be prepared to step out of your comfort zone! Say Yes! When you are given the opportunity reach out and grab it! You don’t want to miss it. Standing out! Embrace it. People you don’t know will know who you are. Just be sure to be mindful of how you behave and what you say in public.
