State-of-play Eurostat finalising P1 variables in each domain, i.e. internal agreement in Eurostat and approval by corresponding working groups First drafts for P2 variables being developed and presented to corresponding working groups In September 2015 a written consultation for all P1 variables with relevance to the LFS; for overall finalisation and proposal to DSS.

Modified P1 Labour Market variables Revised due to comments from LAMAS and other Eurostat domains General rule: if a survey does not collect information for a specific sub-group that is theoretically part of the target population it can be counted as not applicable for that group.
Modifications P1: Main Activity Status (MAINSTAT in LFS) Children below 15 counted as 'not applicable' Category for 'students/pupils' is not anymore restricted to formal education Optional category 'compulsory military or civilian service' added Some descriptions added to implementation guidelines
Modifications P1: Full- or part-time job (FTPT in LFS) Usual hours (in main job) as basis for distinguishing full- and part-time. Added description for defining and explaining 'usual working hours'.
Modifications P1: Reasons for part-time job (FTPTREAS in LFS) Low differentiation level with aggregated personal and professional reasons dropped from standard.
First draft for P2 Labour Market variables After review of concepts applied in ESS social surveys including core social variables and census legislation. Most social survey implement internationally agreed classifications for these variables. Future standards should directly be based on the classifications without modifications or additional dimensions. Corresponds to approach used for LFS Refer explicitly to the main job

Draft for P2: Occupation (ISCO4D in LFS) Variable concept The variable is defined according to the […] ISCO-08. It groups or classifies jobs according to the similarities of the tasks and duties undertaken in the job. In the ILO resolution adopting the ISCO-08, occupation is defined as a set of jobs whose main tasks and duties are characterised by a high degree of similarity.
