Social mapping Official documents Grey literature Media Field work

Sampling strategies Random sampling Targeted sampling 1. Identification of locations for more intensive study. 2. Initial recruitment plan for each location: cultivate contacts, establish sample quota according to age, gender, ethnicity, information through observation, semi structured interviews of key informants, coding and description of the environment. Tape and video recording. 3. Processed recruitment: ongoing observations and interviewing.

Snowball sampling 1. Chain sampling and snowball waving in order to reach large numbers of hidden populations. (wide vriety in initial sample) 2. Capture and recapture approach (numbers of old names coming back and new names coming in indicate the size of the hidden population). 3. Establishing trust through field work.

Data collection Key informants Case studies Focus groups Participant observation Unstructered observation In depth interviews Social networking Tape recording Video recording

Data analysis Typology construction Relevant elemants are distelled from the material and categorised according to differences and similarities. The first contours of the dimensions become visible. Maximun minimum approach: within the categories the differences are at small as possible, between the categories the differences are as big as possible. Categories can be brought under in dimensions, sub dimensions ETC. The ongoing process in different phases and through continuously comparing of similarities and differences leads to integration and grounded theory. Interpretation dialogue and enlarged subjectivity
