Pod Power

GCSEPod is now available in school! Your child now has access to the award-winning digital content and revision provider, GCSEPod, used by over 300,000 students worldwide. GCSEPod provides over 6000, 3-5 minute bursts of visual learning via their short videos called ‘Pods’. 21+ GCSE subjects covered. Each Pod is exam board specific, so you can be reassured your child is accessing all the correct information. Content can be downloaded to your child’s mobile device, it’s literally like they’re carrying text books in their pockets.

The Advantages of using GCSEPod GCSEPod makes learning and revision much more manageable. The Pods contain all the right facts, quotes, keywords, dates and diagrams. GCSEPod can be used to support revision, homework and learning. GCSEPod makes it easy to understand subject knowledge. You can log into your child’s account to monitor usage (just ask them to share their login details). It allows you to get involved with your child’s progress. Improves confidence, motivation and behaviour. Ability to favourite any Pods on topics they find hard and revisit them. Pre-made exam playlists, helping to organise revision. GCSEPod Apps Apple Android Make sure your child downloads the GCSEPod app to their mobile devices from the relevant stores.

Tips & Tricks of using GCSEPod with your child Watch online or offline! Ask your child to download some Pods to their mobile device, this way they are free to expand their knowledge wherever they go. Create Playlists! Use the My Playlist area to create bespoke playlists on topics that they may find challenging. Having a personalised playlist means your child has fast access to Pods that will help to fill in knowledge gaps. Use Favourites! Challenge your child to favourite 10 Pods on topics they find challenging. Watch the Pods together and discuss together to help simplify what it is they’re struggling with.

Memory Cards! Watch the Pods and then together write key facts, dates, diagrams and quotes. Then test their knowledge to see how much they remember. Top Tip* Turn it into a competition and reward your child for correctly answered questions. If you’re stuck on what questions to ask your child then head over to our ‘Quiz your Child’ document.

Support Homework! GCSEPod isn’t just for revision, it’s to help expand your child’s subject knowledge. If your child is struggling with a piece of homework, you can search for the topic on GCSEPod and use the Pods as an additional resource.

Accessing GCSEPod Your child can access GCSEPod by following the instructions below:

The results speak for themselves……

The Impact of GCSEPod – National Analysis The students were grouped into quartiles based on how much they used GCSEPod, as seen in the following two graphs. As can be seen from this graph, there appears to be a positive relationship between Progress 8 and higher GCSEPod usage. On average, the students who used GCSEPod the most, achieved 0.51 higher in their Progress 8 than the non users. High Users = average 122 Pods watched in academic year Medium = average 34 Pods watched in academic year Low = average 6 Pods watched in academic year Non Users = 0 Pods watched in academic year

Individual schools that took part in the wider study also noted some specific correlations. At Glossopdale School, the highest GCSEPod users achieved on average 1.06 higher Progress 8 scores than the non users. On average, these users also achieved 66% more (+23.59) Attainment 8 Points than the non users. At South Molton School, the highest GCSEPod users achieved 1.20 higher Progress 8 scores than the non users. These users also on average achieved 66% more (+24.1) Attainment 8 Points than the non users. At North Chadderton School, the highest GCSEPod users on average achieved 0.9 higher Progress 8 scores than the non users. Across all their subjects, the highest users also exceeded their predicted grades by 1.0 Attainment 8 point.

What are students and parents saying?

GCSEPod has allowed me to multitask while learning, in addition to the method of presentation itself which actually brought information on a silver platter. GCSEPod is, by far, flawless. Student

though she is doing revision!” My son Kipp found the gcsepods very handy-he could listen to the videos and pods on the school bus in the morning. Thank you very much for producing such high quality and usable materials. He did really well in his GCSEs so we both appreciate your resources very much. Parent Just to let you know Evie had an amazing set of results for her GCSEs, mainly 8's and 7's! I think GCSEPod is really helpful - especially for her science subjects (she did combined science and got 8, 7 - brilliant!! Thanks again. Parent “Wow!! Emma actually asked if GCSEPod counted as revision as she can't believe it!  I can't believe it either! How fantastic to have a resource that meet students on their level, I am blown away!  She actually does not feel as though she is doing revision!” Parent
