PE Final Project Nutrition Spring 2016

The Basics… Unit 1: Carbohydrates (25pts) Unit 2: Protein (25pts) There are four components of the final project this year Within each unit in your PE class you will complete one component of the final project In order to complete this project: every student must sign Up for MyFitnessPal (phone/computer) or document on paper log (approval needed) Record a 2-day food log using one of the above modules MyFitnessPal App or www.myfitnesspal.com Unit 1: Carbohydrates (25pts) Unit 2: Protein (25pts) Unit 3: Fat (25pts) Unit 4: Final Reflection (25pts)

To complete the final project, each student must …… Sign Up for MyFitnessPal app or on computer (www.myfitnesspal.com) Benefits of using App Food Scanner Restaurant/café/coffee house finder Breakdown of information for each food Use this App or Website to log your food/drink intake for two full days. Example: Print out this report: Log into your account Click on Food diary Click on View Printable Report Choose a start and end data (the two days you logged) Print out each day’s report

Step by step process and example of creating food log Go to the My Fitness Pal website, scroll down and click on the video in the middle of the page.

Unit 1 continued… Assigned: Feb 3rd Due: Feb 10th (1st part of project) Emphasis on Carbohydrates Use your two day food log to complete the following three questions: On your food log printout, highlight all carbohydrates (food and drink) you consumed during the two logged days List all your good choices from the carbohydrate group List all your poor carbohydrate choices. Describe why each choice was poor and suggest an alternate choice (good carbohydrate) you could have chosen

Unit 2: Protein Assigned: March 2nd Due:March 9th Emphasis on Protein Use your two day food log to complete the following three questions: On your food log printout, highlight all protein (food and drink) you consumed during the two logged days List all your good choices from the protein group List all your poor protein choices. Describe why each choice was poor and suggest an alternate choice (good protein) you could have chosen

Unit 3: Fats Assigned: April 15th Due: April 12th Emphasis on Fats Use your two day food log to complete the following three questions: On your food log printout, highlight all fats (food and drink) you consumed during the two logged days List all your good choices from the fat group List all your poor fat choices. Describe why each choice was poor and suggest an alternate choice (good fat) you could have chosen
