Active Reading Strategies

Active Reading Strategies Please Visit Cousin Quincy Clark Everyday (PVCQCE) Good Readers learn to do these while they are reading With practice it becomes automatic!!!

Predict Stop and think. Try to guess what will happen next based on what you read. Keep reading to see if your prediction was correct. Revise your predictions as you read on. Example: The Spirit Bear approached Cole with a slow lazy stride, its head held low. Cole clenched his fist. Maybe he could hold up his arm. Maybe he had energy for one last swing.

Visualize

Connect Text to Text, Text to Self, Text to World Connect personally to what you are reading Link it back to other things you have read, experiences you might have had, and things or events happening in the world around you

Question Ask yourself questions in order to understand the text more deeply. Why did this happen in the text? Why did the character do that? What would happen if they had done _______ instead? What are you confused by? What is motivating the character(s)? Why are certain things happening?
