Challenge question-how does the vegetation adapt in the hot desert? How does the vegetation adapt in the tropical rainforest biome and what is it adapting to? (6 marks) In the rainforest biome the leaves are pointed with drip tips (1) These drip tips channel the water off the leaf to stop it from rotting in the heavy rains (2). The tallest emergent trees are supported by buttress roots (1). The roots anchor the trees in place in the shallow soils and draw nutrients from the top layer (2). Purple pen-peer assess what is missing Green pen respond to feedback Challenge question-how does the vegetation adapt in the hot desert?

How have the plants and animals adapted to the hot desert?

Recap-What does adapt mean? THINK PAIR SHARE This means that something has changed to suit its conditions What conditions may a plant have to adapt to in the hot desert????? Drought, heat

Is there soil in the hot desert? Characteristics of hot desert soils Most desert soils have no organic content (nutrients), they are just made up of pieces of rock and sand Desert soils are usually light coloured Desert soils have little vegetation cover that varies with temperature and height Desert soils are highly variable: They may be deep, shallow, salty or covered with desert pavement, or have crusts or cement-like layers near the surface. Desert soils are called Aridisols NO YES
