Railroads Carry bulk cargo Rolled across the country carrying raw materials and finished products Made goods more accessible to every American city Provided a means of travel and communication What effect did the creation of railroads have on goods and economy in the United States? They brought raw materials and finished products to cities, towns, and within reach of farms, and gave businesspeople a means of rapid travel and communication

Airlines Carry mail, freight (packages, machines, cars) with great speed Cannot carry a lot of heavy cargo at one time or land at small airports More expensive because of fuel and security Explain the kinds of problems associated with transporting goods by air. Airplanes can only carry a certain amount of heavy cargo; large cargo planes cannot land at small airports, so goods must then be transported by other means; it can be expensive because f higher aviation fuel prices and increased security measures

Highways The most used form of transportation in the U.S. Rapid highway transportation depends on good roads and a steady supply of fuel How could rising gasoline prices affect transportation of goods by motor vehicles? Prices for transporting goods could rise, making goods more expensive for consumers or scarce in some parts of the country
