STA - Knowledge Management Tech Casing STA - Knowledge Management

Goals of Casing See how you think See how communicate See how you handle pressure

Consulting Casing vs. Tech Casing Case Component Tech Problem statement designed to be followed by your clarifying questions. Prompt & Response Straightforward problem statement or question. Usually not as tricky or complicated. “Do you mind if I have a second to get my thoughts?”, followed by buckets and bullet points and structured framework Post-Prompt Framework Flexibility in how you structure your response. Creativity allowed. DON’T say “Do you mind if I have a second to get my thoughts?” Hand-drawn spreadsheet expected to be correct Back of the Envelope Math (sometimes make assumptions) Maybe a few quick revenue or price calculations if any Brainstormed list or structure of solutions; showcase for creativity Solution Brainstorming & Problem Solving (overlap!) Also a brainstormed list or structure of solutions; showcase for creativity Structured recommendation, risks, next steps Structured Recommendation Usually plan of action based on brainstorm if any Luke: Consulting; Kristen: Tech, can spitball on similarities

Types of Questions PM Case - Ask you to design a product Improve a new product Favorite product Sales Given a prompt and data, craft a story to present Strategies for entering a new market Marketing Rolling out a new product Growing existing product (and measuring success) LTV Luke

Format Mixed in with behavioral ~5-10 min OR One person in the loop comes in to do the case Feel free to ask clarifying questions Be conversational Don’t rush, take your time to think It’s okay to not have an answer right away Luke

Tips Know what is going on in the industry: Risks / Opportunities: company & industry Acquisitions Trends Don’t say “bucket” Go to MCA bootcamp Think categorically, and bucketed, BUT don’t sounds categorically and bucketed. KM

From your peers: MBA2 Feedback “Know a lot about your company, the cases you'll get will likely be problems that your company has worked on first-hand” (this is the most common component of tech cases) “Show the interviewer that you are able to think of more than just the obvious answers” “I messed up the math a few times, but I saved myself by being very personable about my mistakes” KM

From your peers: MBA2 Feedback (continued) “They are much shorter than consulting cases. They are very relevant to the industry / product. In preparing, think very specifically about what this company does, and try to anticipate the questions.” “Structure answers with several buckets, and go through thoughts/each bullet of why” (depending on the company & case, you may or may not get the chance to do this) Luke
