WMO RA1 Workshop on AWS Networks 19-21 November 2018 Windhoek, Namibia Dennis Kapaso Meteorological Services Department of Zimbabwe

AWS Network To date 66 AWS have been deployed across the country. Biggest number is through partnerships with private sector and NGO’s involved/interested in climate resilience and drought adaptation projects vulnerable communities in communities AWS are assisting in providing weather and climate information to the communities and also in climate change related researches by various institutions. 30 AWS out of 66 being operated by Meteorological Services Department

Challenges Integration issues (AWS from at least 4 different suppliers)- no common display or central server, cannot be integrated into existing data management system(CLIMSOFT) Sustainability and continuity (Networks with development partners) Poor engagement of MSD by development partners Underutilisation of data from AWS networks
