Hebrews The Relationship Of Jesus With Sin Look At The Book! Hebrews The Relationship Of Jesus With Sin
All Have Sinned I am a sinner. So are you. We must never become comfortable with that fact. Sin should always make us feel hurt, angry, sad, disgusted. Even our own sin. One of the great themes of the book of Hebrews concerns the relationship of Jesus with sin. We must share that relationship if we are to be in Christ.
Jesus Understands That We Sin Hebrews 2:9-11 – “But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings. For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren….”
He Understands Us Hebrews 2:14, 18 -- Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil…. For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.
He Sympathizes With Us Hebrews 4:14-16 -- “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
He Intercedes For Us Hebrews 7:25 -- Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” But understand, Jesus is not SOFT on sin.
He Would Never Condone Sin Hebrews 9:14 -- “…how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Jesus went to the cross to cleanse our consciences. Not to look the other way.
He Came to Fight Against Sin Hebrews 10:5-7 --Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says, “Sacrifice and offering You have not desired, but a body You have prepared for Me; In whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You have taken no pleasure. “Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come (In the scroll of the book it is written of Me) To do Your will, O God.’”
He Knows The Penalty For Sin Hebrews 10:26-31 -- For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries. Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge His people.” It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Neither Can We Condone Sin Hebrews 2:1-3a – “For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it. For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just penalty, how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?” We cannot escape if we don’t maintain our faith.
We Have A Warning From The Spirit Hebrews 3:7-9 -- Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, “Today if you hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as when they provoked Me, As in the day of trial in the wilderness, Where your fathers tried Me by testing Me, And saw My works for forty years.”
Don’t Remain Sinful! Hebrews 3:12-13 --Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God. But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. Hebrews 4:11-13 --Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, through following the same example of disobedience. For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.”
We Can’t Waver Hebrews 10:19-23 – “Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful….”
Rather, We Must Run! Hebrews 12:1-2 – “Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Don’t Misunderstand Jesus Don’t confuse His kindness and grace for permissiveness and a license to sin. Psalm 103:14 -- For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust.” God knows we are dust, but He also knows dust can be holy!
