To access Windows 10 Settings First click the Menu button then click Settings

…that displays the introductory screen for Windows 10 Settings … which replaces the old-style Control Panel

… but you can still access the old-style Control Panel by using the ‘Cortana’ search box adjoining the Start button starting to type “control panel” in the search box adjoining the Start button and then clicking on ‘Control Panel’ at the top of the resulting search results

Control Panel lists all the individual Settings (which are grouped in the new Settings introductory screen) … indicated by this icon in the task bar

… but I’m going to be working from the new Settings screen … indicated by this icon in the task bar

If you’re looking for a particular setting and don’t know where to find it, then use the ‘Search’ box

When you’re moving around the settings … The search box is usually still available The left arrow will always take you back a screen The ‘gear wheel’ will take you back to the Settings ‘home’ screen

When reviewing / changing the settings you will encounter … On / Off sliders To change the setting, you can either: Drag the white/black dot to the other end of the oval shape, or Click at the other end of the shape Sometimes the buttons may be ‘greyed-out’ until another option is changed e.g. when I change the top setting, the other settings become available.

You will also encounter … items where it is not immediately obvious that they are clickable until you hover over them It is not obvious that all 4 of these items have additional settings beyond the On / Off settings shown but when you hover over each of them, the grey background indicates that they are clickable … to access further settings

Another example is here: where hovering over one of the drives suggests that it might be clickable … … for further information

Other (not very obvious) clues to look for include: the blue item is clickable; you can type in the first box to do a search (the clues are the grey text and the magnifying glass symbol); the other two boxes have drop-down lists for alternative choices (the clue is the grey ‘V’ shape); each program name is also clickable (the clue is the grey background when you hover over them).

Now to review these Settings in more detail: and others on request – depending on time available

The remainder of this topic was an interactive session carried out ‘live’ from Windows 10 without using any further slides.
