Presentation transcript:

(Discussion – Origin of the Atmosphere and Oceans) Monday October 30, 2017 (Discussion – Origin of the Atmosphere and Oceans)

The Launch Pad Monday, 10/30/17 Explain how the dust particles in our nebula came together to form the Earth. The nebula was struck by shock waves from a supernova, causing the particles to clump closer together. The electrostatic force caused the dust particles to stick together into balls of dust. The balls of dust were struck by lightning generated by the dust cloud, fusing them into tiny pieces of rock.

The Launch Pad Monday, 10/30/17 Explain how the dust particles in our nebula came together to form the Earth. The tiny pieces of rock collided randomly with one another, forming rocks the size of asteroids. When the asteroids reached a certain size, gravity began pulling them together into larger and larger bodies. When the asteroids reached a few hundred miles in diameter, their internal gravity formed them into spheres that eventually grew to the size of planets.

Remediation for Quiz 5 runs through Wednesday at 5:00! Announcements Remediation for Quiz 5 runs through Wednesday at 5:00!

Announcements Last Friday we took an eResearch paper titled “The History of the World in 18 Minutes/The Birth of the Earth.” This material lays a foundation for topics we will discuss in the near future, so it’s vitally important that your are familiar with this information before we move forward! If you did not get a passing score on this eResearch Paper, you must take it again. Please remember that after you submit this type of assignment, you can see your answers and the correct answers if you missed the question. If this applies to you, please go back and look at the answers, then let me know when you are ready to try again. This is a mandatory requirement.
