Active Listening Day#2 Intro to Leadership CS 303 Lesson

Day# 20 Learning Target I am able to practice active listening and use the SOFTEN model when talking with others. What are you grateful for today? What is the most challenging aspect of the SOFTEN model? Who is the easiest to practice active listening with? And why? Who is difficult to practice active listening with? Why?

Print out the character page for the students to use Print out the character page for the students to use. I would actually collect this next class.

Review: SOFTEN

One Inch Tall Person One Inch Tall Person I did three round of this game. You do have to help them a little with their story in the first round- they get pretty good at it as you go along. Round one: I started the story… Once upon a time there was a one inch tall person who lived… Round two: Ask a student to be the story starter Round three: have a student start- but they have to say a name of student after each addition, then go till ALL have added to the story.

Here’s how it works One side tries to protect/save the One Inch person Other side is trying to cause the One Inch person problems or put obstacles in their way. Before you continue the story you must paraphrase what the person before you said This does not mean say everything they said, just an overall idea of what they said

Thank you for presenting at our school on Future Ready day! We appreciate your time!! Thank you, Intro to Leadership

One Inch Tall Person One Inch Tall Person What was one challenge to this activity? What was one highlight from the activity? Why do you think we did this activity? After the activity have the students journal/reflect about these questions then share them out with the class.

Sarah Dessen, author of Just Listen, says, Final Thoughts Sarah Dessen, author of Just Listen, says, “This is the problem with dealing with someone who is actually a good listener. They don’t jump in on your sentences, saving you from actually finishing them, or talk over you, allowing what you do manage to get out to be lost or altered in transit. Instead, they wait, so you have to keep going.’” Big concept
