Preceptorship Programme NMC states that a new registrant on a preceptorship programme should have: 1: Protected learning time 2: Access to a preceptor 3: Regular time to meet with their preceptor Accessible to newly registered nurses, new GPN’s & those returning to practice
Preceptorship Programme Recommended that those eligible should start on joining the organisation Preceptorship lasts approximately one year Competence in the Capital Nurse domains should be met Supernumerary period of 2 weeks Preceptor and preceptee should work together for 4 shifts in the first month Regular meetings should occur

Mentorship Clinical supervision Intended to replace induction to employment Intended to replace mandatory training programmes Intended to be a substitute for management performance processes Intended to replace regulatory body processes to deal with performance a further period of training Formal coaching (coaching skills may be used by the preceptor to facilitate the learning of the newly registered practitioner) Not a distance or e-learning package
