How do you learn? Learning Styles

Learning Objective Students will be able to analyze their learning style in order to illustrate the 7 styles of learning using Microsoft Publisher

Warm-up Think about how you learn, describe how you think you learn best in 2 complete sentences.

Learning Style Inventory Why would you need to know how you learn? Everyone has a mix of learning styles. Some people may find that they have a leading style of learning, with far less use of the other styles. Others may find that they use different styles in different situations. There is no right mix. Nor are your styles permanent. Your preferred styles guide the way you learn. They also change the way you internally represent experiences, the way you recall information, and even the words you choose! What are the different learning styles? Research shows that learning style uses different parts of the brain. By involving more of the brain during learning, we remember more of what we learn. Researchers using brain-imaging technologies have been able to find out the key areas of the brain responsible for each learning style. There are 7 different styles of learning!

Learning Style Inventory survey Click on the link below to take the Learning Style survey What's my learning Style Copy and paste your results into a Word document and save it. (Ctrl key+c) then (Ctrl key+v) Once you save the document upload it to the assignment “turn-in” on BCPSone

Learning Style made easy Watch the short video

The 7 styles of learning

Lets talk about it! Log into your BCPSone account and select the discussions tab. Study the “Multiple Intelligences” image. Decide from what you recorded after the quiz which learning style describes you! Write down your learning style on the discussion post. Find another student looking at the posts with the same TOP learning style as you. Update your post and record your names together in the discussion post.

Let’s Create With the partner that you selected you will create a flyer using Microsoft Publisher to tell others what your learning style is all about. *Remember the “Multiple Intelligences” image by Dr. Howard Gardner

Microsoft Publisher Flyer Requirements Open Publisher Follow directions on document from Mrs. Brown The Learning Style is located in a noticeable place on the flyer so that people can easily tell what it’s about. Information should NOT be in paragraph form but should include text blocks. You can create text blocks logos using the help sheet provided. Must have at least 3 cool font styles. Must have pictures that represent what your learning style is all about. Design MUST look good and have a well organized layout Design MUST have a color scheme (3-4 colors that work together to create the design for your flyer). Some color scheme examples would be as follows: red/black/white OR neon green/bright pink/white. Or anything that will look good! Make sure you both check for spelling and grammar Save your flyer as “learning style flyer” Upload your completed learning style flyer to “turn-in” on BCPSone.
