Welcome! October 10th, 2017 Tuesday Grab a Chromebook, sign in, and close the screen.  Welcome! October 10th, 2017 Tuesday Do Now Get out your weekly Bell Ringer sheet and begin working on Tuesday’s assignment. Once the bell rings, you will have five minutes to guess the meaning of the word. Make sure you explain your thinking! Remember: Do Now's are INDEPENDENT and QUIET exercises. Thank you 

Read the following sentence and guess the meaning of the word paradigm based on the context. Although Sara is an unconventional teacher, she still supports the educational paradigm used by most veteran teachers at her school. A paradigm is a typical example or pattern of something. It is a model for something that may be copied. © Presto Plans

Journal Heading At the top of your paper, you need: Your name 10/7/16 CP10 American Lit/Block “Snowbound”

John Greenleaf Whittier Part of the “Fireside Poets” – group of Romantic poets who were so popular, families would read their works aloud after dinner for entertainment (Bryant from Wednesday was one of them!) Grew up in extreme poverty on a rural farm, had very little formal education – embraces the Romantic idea of celebrating the common man, emphasizing emotion as a form of intelligence and truth Celebrated the simple joys of nature and the close bonds of families living in poverty – this became especially popular as more people moved into the cities and began to long for the “good old days”

“A Winter Idyll” As we read, pay close attention to the way Whittier describes the relationship between himself, nature, and his family. How does he emphasize his emotions throughout the piece? Once we finish, respond to the Critical Reading Questions in your packet. Be sure to explain and back up your responses with evidence if needed! 
