The Middle East

Population The Middle East actually only accounts for 20% of the world’s Muslim population.

Population Surprisingly! Indonesia actually has the largest Muslim population in the world.

Ethnicities The largest ethnic group that lives in the Middle East are the Arabs.

The Sunni The Sunni are a branch of Islam The Sunni believe the first four successors of Muhammad were his rightful successors.

Shia The Shia are another branch of the two branches of Islam. A branch of Islam that believes Muhammad’s son-in-law Ali and the imams are the rightful successors.

Sharia (shari’ah) Law Islamic law that was made using the Quran and the teachings of Muhammad. It is the predominant legal code in Southwest Asia and North Africa (The Middle East).

The Faith Mecca is an important Holy site in the Islamic faith
