My Learning from academic tour of Australia School-based management, Arawang primary; Melrose Secondary; Canberra College; Sydney Uni. Kings Christian College; AEF..etc. Information technology inclusion Electronic whiteboard with interaction teaching... Stolen generations from 1869~1969 from Europeanism to Multi culturalism… Educate to serve the society and mankind to meet global and local challenges…

The challenges facing Taiwan education The nature and quality of K-12 education… The declining birth rate or even drain out… The autonomy & accountability of K-12 education… The declining government support… The fallen international competitiveness including physical infrastructure and quality of manpower mobility…

Views from the past 10 years: Strengths of education in Taiwan Good solid foundations in elementary and high school (characteristics, personality, moral..) Fair and equal opportunity for every kid of diverse background (Equality + Justice) Well prepared in basic 3R+S skills (to meet parent needs) Stable in educational surroundings (teacher involvements; government support; administrative efficiency; or even unions)

Views from the past 10 years: Weaknesses of education in Taiwan Fixed and uniform curriculum (low diversity) Practice and drills of reflexive learning (or test) skills Inability to express verbally and in writing Lack of creativity training Lack of aggressiveness Less emphasis on the synthesizing ability Poor in international communication (e.g. English) skills

Trends toward the 2020: manpower competition and education changes Is qualification equal to manpower quality; or is able to survive in the changeable future workforce… How to sustain our student’s motivation for longer… How to enrich student’s ability to take challenge… Future trends: Mobility; Creativity; Info-tech ability; Self-determination ability…

Our efforts and unfinished jobs in education reforms School-based management (Accountability; Budgeting; Curriculum; Decision-making; Evaluation;) From Teacher professional development to Professional Learning Community; mentor new teachers Rationalize the number of courses loading (ip. Tainan City..) Encourage students to take challenges (globa–local issues..) Respect the cultural diversification (disadvantage groups with generosity; new Taiwanese generation; integrations with other opinions..)

As being the school leader, what issues you need to put into practice? Strategies: Learning to know Learning to be Learning to do Learning to live together Learning to Change………

Thanks a million
