Chemistry Terms Part 1

Decomposition noun the state or process of rotting; decay. "the decomposition of organic waste" synonyms: decay, putrefaction, putrescence, putridity When a plant, animal, or insect dies, that plant, animal, or insect is broken into tiny pieces and those pieces become part of the soil. Breaking a substance down

Combustion noun the process of burning something. synonyms: burning; kindling, ignition "the combustion of fossil fuels" CHEMISTRY rapid chemical combination of a substance with oxygen, involving the production of heat and light.

Malleability Malleability is a physical property of matter, usually metals. The property usually applies to the family groups 1 to 12 on the modern periodic table of elements.  It is the ability of a solid to bend or be hammered into other shapes without breaking. ... When a piece of hot iron is hammered it takes the shape of a sheet. When you heat a metal, will it bend? If so, it is malleable.  Heat up the metal, hit with a hammer into a new shape, cool it off. 

Ductile In materials science, ductility is a solid material's ability to deform under tensile stress this is often characterized by the material's ability to be stretched into a wire. any force that pulls the two ends of a material away from each other capable of being stretched out into a thin wire, and it does not become weaker or become brittle in the process.

Conductivity noun, plural conductivities. Physics. the property or power of conducting heat, electricity, or sound. Also called specific conductance. Electricity. a measure of the ability of a given substance to conduct electric current, equal to the reciprocal of the resistance of the substance. There are materials that conduct heat and electricity efficiently, mostly metals, such as copper, aluminum, silver, and iron. Some nonmetals, such as graphite, concrete, and dirty water, also serve as conductors, but they're not as efficient as metals. The degree of conductivity is different among varying materials.
