Sending a Message in a Bottle from Llanidloes
We live in an amazing country!
We have the highest mountain in England and Wales.
We have the first coastal path in the whole world.
Wales has more castles per square mile in than any country in Europe!
Millions of people visit Wales for their holidays because it is so beautiful.
And we live right in the middle of the biggest county in Wales – Powys.
We live in one of the nicest towns in Britain We live in one of the nicest towns in Britain. Especially when it’s snowing!
We made the world’s biggest Welsh Cake in Llanidloes!
And Llanidloes is the first town on the Severn, the longest river in Britain!
So we’re very lucky to live in such a fantastic place.
But in the oceans around the world plastic is causing a big problem.
Some of it is caused by dropping litter on the beach.
Some of it is washed up when the tide comes in.
And some of is caused right here, in Llanidloes, miles from the sea.
Thousands of people are doing litter picking on lots of beaches.
This is the rubbish my friends and I recently picked up on Borth beach.
Big crowds of people are helping to clean beaches all around Britain.
In just the last few weeks….. 35,000 volunteers. 571 beaches across the UK. 63 TONNES of marine plastic pollution. 16,000 bin bags full. So there is lots of good news!
What can we do? Keep Llanidloes and River Severn free of litter. Never drop litter! Join local litter-picking events. Use reusable bags. Reduce plastic that you buy. Recycle everything you can! Encourage others to do all these things : )
And help keep Wales and our seas beautiful.
So that we can keep enjoying our lovely beaches.
And we protect our seas for the wildlife that lives there.
