FRQ Strategies Take a couple of minutes in Google Classroom to fill out the form: What strategies do you use to be successful in reading the prompt/passage? What strategies do you use in the writing process? What do you struggle with in either process? Be as specific as possible. Don't just say, "I struggle with writing." Or, "I struggle with sounding like I know what I'm talking about."

Thesis Statements: Hardy portrays the complex relationship between Henchard and Elizabeth-Jane through a tone of agitation, specific diction, and details that describe the writing scene as uneasy. Thomas Hardy is able to portray this strange relationship in the reunification of father and daughter in The Mayor of Casterbridge by depicting the gradual separation of father and daughter as they try to become closer to each other’s expectations. [B]etween Henchard’s verbal aggressions and his shift towards icy verbal neglect even as Elizabeth-Jane changes her behavior to please him, this passage suggests that though the father and daughter have been physically reunited, they largely remain estranged on an emotional level. In this excerpt, Hardy depicts their complex relationship. The constant disapproval of a parent towards a child only drives them further apart.
