Large Landowners

Large landowners live mostly in the SOUTH

Large landowners relied on indentured servants or slaves for labor.

Large landowners were educated in some cases.

Large landowners had a rich social culture.

Farmers worked the land according to the region.

Farmers rely on family members for labor.

Artisans worked as craftsmen in towns and on the plantation.

Artisans lived in small villages and cities.

Women worked as caretakers, homemakers and house-workers.

Women could NOT vote.

Women had few chances for education.

Indentured Servants consisted of men and women who did not have money to travel to the new world,

and who agreed to work without pay for the person who paid for their voyage.

Indentured servants were free at the end of their contract.

Slaves were captured in their native Africa and sold to slave traders.

shipped to the colonies and sold into slavery.

Slaves were owned as property for life and had no rights.

Slaves were often born into slavery.
