The Bantu speaking peoples migrated from Western Africa southward and eastward, spreading out across the all of the southern half of the continent. The migration began 1000 B.C.E. and ended about 1700 A.D. Iron making, iron axes and hoes allowed Bantu to cut down trees and farm. The Bantu traded yarns and bananas that grew well in the rainforest.
